Default Driver side door won't unlock with switch

Hi I am trying to help my friend fix his driver side door lock on his 02. It will only work if you activate it manually. If you push the button or use the fob you can hear the LDCM clicking but the lever wont move 90% of the time but every so often it will work. I have checked and it has no LDCM codes or any codes at all for that matter.I pulled the door panel of and inspected all of the connections linkage and wiring and it is all in great shape and moves freely. When you push the switch you can feel the LDCM clicking but the lock solenoid does nothing. I am thinking it is the door lock solenoid but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before I change it or if I should check anything else. I just don't want to waist someones money and give him bad advise and have it not be the problem...Thanks Rick

I have seen this problem numerous times. Odds are that inside the LDCM the signal circuit to the solenoid has high resistance. Everything will work in the module, except it can't flow enough current to energive the door lock actuator. I've never had one that wasn't an internal failure in the door module.

Most likely a relay in the door control module. Both of mine did that last summer. One door would unlock but not lock and the other was the opposite. I found a guy on the big auction site that rebuilds them. I sent mine in, he repaired them, and now they work fine.

Thanks for the info I will try the LDCM. I was assuming since the it wasn't throwing any codes and I could hear it activating it was probably OK and it must bee the door lock solenoid. I am so glad I found this forum it has saved me more time money and grief than I could ever imagine....Thanks again guys

I have the driver's side "unlock works but lock does not" issue on my '01 Z. I pulled the door panel and checked the actuator vs. one I picked up cheap on EBAY -- not the actuator. I played around with the wires to the control module and it worked -- a few times. I then whacked the thing with the heel of my hand a few times and it worked for a minute or so. Gotta be the relay.

Think I'll order a module from EBAY...electronics repair is not in my skill set!

BTW -- is there any trick to undoing the 4 plugs which attach the wire loom to the control box?

Thanks...

No secret to unlatching the connectors. You just have to push the release latch with a finger and pull the connector out. Mine were tight so I had to wiggle them a little bit to get them apart.

The red and clear connectors are easy to remove. Just squeeze the top of the connector and wiggle them out. The back and green connectors are a little different. Just use a small flat blade screwdriver just slide the screwdriver in between the connector and the module on the outside of each of the connectors where you can see the clip goes in apply a little pressure to the inside which will release the clip on the inside and pull the connector out. This is a lot easier to do with the module off of the door.
