Bill Curlee - EBCM/Electrical Problems
2002 Vert, slightly modified (intake/exhaust/etc). Replaced the EBCM after it's initial failure back in Nov. Last week, I had a bunch of codes hit at once:
C1248
C1255
B0026
U1160
C1283
and I started getting a "Service Vehicle Soon" message on the DIC. I reset the codes, and the C1248 and C1255 come back immediately, and the C1283 shows up eventually. The others are gone, but I still get the "Service Vehicle Soon" warning.
Additionally, the steering feels stiffer than normal (however, this could purely be psycho-somatic...)
This occurred in the rain (I rarely drive in the rain), and it seems the EBCM is dead again, but the "Service..." message and the stiffer steering has me worried.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

I'd be trying the grounds first
Look at Bills electrical sticky and clean up the grounds to see if it improves
It could be the EBCM but I'd try the simple fixes first.

Check the grounds just like DEEGEE stated!
Second,, I would disconnect the main connector and inspect the winchester plug and EBTCM connector. Make sure that there in good shape. Make sure that the wires inside the connector are not damaged or broken.
When you replaced the EBTCM,,,,did you make sure that the seal between the BPMV body and the EBTCM was 100% good. If it isnt, the module may have moisture in it. Thats the next thing that i would check.
The EBTCM makes all the calcuations for active handling and if its not doing them properly, the C1283 DTC will set Excessive time to center steering wheel.
Never seen C1248 DRP Disabled before, Ill have to look that one up!
I love it when those are the first words out of Bill's mouth...

Both - thanks for the feedback. I'll have to dig into it this weekend. I'll let you know what I find (or more likely, have follow up questions...
)
If the connection is clean, does this look like a relay failure (absfixer), or a bigger failure?

I think you left out 3 or 4 things!

I followed the Bill Curlee's advice, no luck. As a side note, the grounds near the headlights were just like Bill's sticky - one was immaculate, the other was corroded.
I'll look at Bill Dearborn's suggestions this weekend.
Thanks, guys! I'll post the next round of results...
Do you use any type of grease/sealer to help seal the weatherpak connector?

My 2003 50th Anniversary Special Edition won't start due to electrical problem and was advised by Jerry Hamm Chevrolet to trade in the car due to costs and not being able to find the cause. Battery brand new and brand new ignition switch. Any idea as to the cause of no start? Really don't want to trade due to economy. Please help and advise.
Thank you so much, Kimberly

I would suggest starting a new thread with your symptoms and the list of codes. You can use the following link to help. http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm
That is the first step for any diagnosis.

Why would they want the trade-in if this is such an expensive problem to fix? Was there a sign out front that said "Dead Corvette Storage?" No? Well that's because storing dead Corvettes ain't their business! Selling them new and used, on the other hand, is. I, too, am glad you didn't listen.
