I have an CV Axle coming in from the dealer tomorrow,
I am planning the install, Are there any tips you can give me for this install, it will be for the drivers side shaft.
I believe once I get the rear side apart it will be easy to just remove the axle.
Any advise.
Thanks
Nick
Put some PB Blaster or other penetrating oil on the axle bolt tonight and let it work. You are going to need a large breaker bar and pipe extention to get the bolt loose, it takes a lot of torque. Remove ball joint and tie rod bolts then use a rubber mallet to persuade axle out of bearing hub if stuck. It will then just pop out of the differential with a strong tug. On reinstall, make sure retaining ring clip is on properly and thoroughly lube splines of new axle and axle seal on the side of the differential. Align splines and it should pop right into place. Sometimes the retaining ring clip can be stubborn. A persuading tap on the end of the axle with the rubber mallett will get it started.
If you are showing any signs of differential axle seal leakage, NOW is the time to replace while you have it all torn apart. The seal is only $22 or so at the stealership.

axle nut
brake caliper
upper control arm bolts
tie rod nut (internal hex is 6mm)
lower shock bolt
the above route you may find easier than going after the lower ball joint(with the axle installed, you have to use large channel locks to avoid spinning the taper when removing/installing the 21mm nut
If you are going to replace the driver's side axle, definitely you should go ahead and take the opportunity to replace the differential output shaft seal, as already suggested
This is a very good step-by-step guide, although I just found out the pictures are not working
Change the seal, even if yours is not leaking "yet"
