About three weeks ago my oil pressure dropped 10-12 PSI from where it normally runs, from idle on up on my 98. Took it to the dealer and they gave me the the same pressure numbers and said everything is normal. All they did was remove the oil filter, put an adapter on it and connect a mechanical pressure gauge and run the engine. They just compared the DIC readings and the dash gauge to the mech gauge and they all read the same. They put my old filter back on and topped of the oil. Didn't even cut the filter open and check for metallic particles. I explained that my concern was the sudden drop in pressure from 4 & 1/2 years and 12,000 miles at pressures 10-12 PSI higher. Like talking to a stump. They refused to do anything. I asked them to drop the pan and take a look-see and to check the oil pump bypass valve. They said Chevrolet tech service the low oil pressure was normal. I have the extended warrenty and asked if they were going to honor the warrenty after it runs out and the motor goes south, which of course they replied -NO.
I got the car back from the dealer and no addtional engine damage!! I guess the synthetic oil did it's job. Now for the bad news, $1508.00, most of it labor. The pump was good but the valve stuck in the pump. As long as they were in there they put a new pump in. This car is getting expensive!!
