I have a torn cv axle boot that is flinging grease everywhere. The axle is an after market, and the boot material is softer than the OEM. It stretches at high MPH, and hits the shock, causing the tear.
Chevrolet does service axle boots, but each one cost MORE than the axles I am running. Does anyone know where to get the GM style boots without the GM price?
Please I don't want to debate the type of axle I'm running etc. If you can't offer info related to the topic, please move along.
I have read elsewhere that it is usually cheaper to replace the whole thing than do a repair. I'm not sure what kind of tips you are not accepting but... I replaced one of mine 2 weeks ago with a remanufactured one from Autozone that looked much better than the stock one it replaced... the job is very easy to do in the driveway to save some money. I can detail the easy process if you want to do it yourself.
there are many choices for boots, yes. I am hoping for answers from someone familiar with the stock type material. So far, the ones I have found are softer rubber..
I have replaced a few (break at drag strip). The problem is with the rubber material. It streches at 140 MPH and hits the shock. The stock material does not. So, even a new one from advanced, auto zone, napa, still has the problem.

I drive the crap out of my car. I was doing 160 the other day no problem (on closed circuit). What kind of shocks do you use? I have Bilstein sports and are very stiff so I do not get a lot of flex issues.
I have a C6 Z06, the shock is located a bit different than a c5.
Do you have any ideas on an boots?
Hmmmmmm.... I'm stumped save for suggesting GM parts warehouse may have a stock hardness rubber boot. It will be more expensive this way and a pain in the butt to rebuild yourself but cheaper in the long run if they stop shredding.
Maybe just don't drive so fast?? HA! Like that's an option!

That is not true , especially if you do it yourself. Boots and grease are far cheaper than a complete 1/2 shaft . Do due diligence and shop around.
His real issue is the type of rubber on the boot . I'd ask in the road racing section for an answer.I'm sure they have found an answer.
