Correct. There are no detergents in gear oils. Detergents would probably do more harm than good in a differential.
The main reason that detergents are added to engine oils is to clean out combustion byproducts which are not present in diffs/ tranny's.

Great. Sounds odd but I want to put some in an old windmill that is fairly worn out. New calls for 10 wt non detergent but this old girl is old and worn 1930's model. Thanks
