Default AIR removal questions.

I'm sorry if this has been beat to death but I can't seem to find a straight forward answer. On a 2000 C5 if I go to a race header (no emissions) and I remove the AIR will it throw a SES light? I've always worked on Fbodys and you can take those off without problems.

I took mine off, as well as the cats, and it never threw any warning lights. I would occasionally get a code in the DIC, but no warnings, I could only see it by running the codes.

Yes,, it will set a CEL. The PCM does a AIR system check during part throttle cruise and if the PCM doesnt see the O2 sensor voltage change when the AIR pump is running it will set a P-1415, P-1416,

If you remove the entire pump and pluming you will also see P-0410, P-0412, P-0418 and P-1415, P-1416,

You can have all that tuned out with tuning software like EFI Live or HP Tuners

The codes and removal of the AIR system will NOT effect performance or economey. Removal of the system will NOT give you any benifit other than a weight loss and clean up the engine compartment. Make sure that you have the header AIR block off plates if your headers have the AIR flanges

My car didn't come with any of that stuff but if it had and it was removed it would definitely throw codes and trigger a CEL. As Bill said, using EFI Live (which I would have used) or other tuning software you can set the code to not reported.

BTW: Most header manufacturers recommend NOT useing block off plates in the air tubes. For some reason, it raises the frequency of which they will break off. The best way to do it is cut them off and weld on a small plate to block the hole. That's what I did.

I had my codes tuned out when I went to Kooks. I removed all my stuff and it cleans the engine bay up nicely.

YES!! Removed the under hood AIR plumbing, blocked off the AIR flanges on the headers and had the AIR reporting tuned out.

I think most people move them to inside the fender where there is some dead space/

Are there any tutorials? Do I need to buy anything to take out the AIR system all out?
