I was filling up the tank today. I did't really need to, but it was at half a tank, so I thought I'd top it off while I was there.
I was daydreaming as it filled, and sort of thought the pump seemed slow as it kept pumping and pumping...well then I smelled gas.
I looked at the ground and there was a HUGE puddle of gas right under the car. I quickly shut off the pump.
There was no gas in the well where the fuel input nozzle is (I don't know what you call that part - where you put in gas)
There was no fuel running down the side.
It was coming out from underneath somewhere.
So my question is, is there an overflow behind the fiberglass side panel where the gas will spill to and run out the bottom, or do I have a major problem on my hands.

Re: Help!!!, Gas overflow!!! (megapack00)
I believe there is a drain in the filler well. It allows any water that gets in to drain to the ground. You should be O.K. :)
P.S. If you want to test, you can pour some water in around the filler nozzle (with the gas cap on of course!) and see where it drains out onto the ground.
Thats the thing...the filler well had NO gas in it. The filler well wasn't wet at all.
It was leaking from below that point. There was no visible signs of overflow from up above. No gas in the well, no gas leaking down the side...just gas on the ground.
When I looked under the car I could see gas running out from behind the fiberglass on the underside of the car, more or less directly below the filler.
You should be fine. I have inadvertently done the same thing. The gas will flow out the hole on the plastic shroud around the filler neck, down behind the fiberglass. Dont forget gas evaporates rapidly too. Some could have gurgled out, ran down to the ground and had a chance to dry in the fill area when you looked at it.
There is a 2" crossover pipe that connects to the top of both tanks.I have seen this pipe pop off on a number of occassions from not being properly installed from the factory...That would leave a "huge" puddle... :yesnod:

wow, seems like the EPA would have a coniption over that and do a major recall.
