Maybe one or two of you guys can give me some help on where to look.
99, stock. After I drive it, and park, I get some smoke and burning smell from the engine bay, It seem to be coming from the inside and below (maybe, not exactly sure) of the brake booster but I cant see anything that would cause it. I looked around with a light , can't see anything leaking, nothing under the car. My oil pressure seems to be working, but maybe its starting to leak? Took the rail covers off to get a better look, but still can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks
It could be the valve cover gaskets leaking, this happened on my 99 Z28. The oil leaks out of the gaskets on the lower side of the valve covers and slowly seeps onto the exhaust manifolds and voila, you have smoke. Changing the valve covers isn't hard, and can be done for less than $20. Unfortunately, if your valve covers are leaking, chances are other oil seals are too. Have you ever changed your PCV valve? It too is a fix that you can do on the cheap and it takes about 5 minutes. The PCV valve gets gunked up with oil deposits over time and causes pressure to build in your crankcase, thus causing the seals to fail and oil to leak. I learned my lesson with my Z28, and now the $6 PCV valve gets changed at least once a year. My Vette doesn't leak and hopefully won't as long as I have it. Good luck!
