Does anyone know where there are detailed instructions for installing the white faced gages? The instructions that comes with the kit say to remove gage cluster as a first step with no further instructions. I am looking for just a little more detail. Thanks in advance.
You are in for a real treat. I own the Helms manuals to my '01 C5 vert and followed GM's method for extracting the cluster. You will need to remove the center console, center dash facia, dash pad, driver's knee facia and both A-pillar covers. Then you can get to the HUD and cluster for removal. Got to be careful not to tilt the cluster for more than about 5 minutes or the glycerin filled cluster may leak (GM warning in manual).
It took me 5 hours to totally disassemble, install faces, reassemble and consume lot's of beer telling myself not to screw this up! It went perfect.
There is a thread on the Forum but I can't remember where. Look back about 60-90 days ago and do a search for white face gauge install, you'll get the details. The thread is excellent, I just chose to use my Helms manual instead.
Good luck, give yourself all day, drink lot's of beer, listen to soothing music, take photos (you'll never want to see your car like this again!) and then enjoy the new look.
There was an excellant article in Corvette Fever about a year ago. Gave detailed instructions. The first time took me 2-1/2 hrs, the second time 1-1/2 hours, the third time (by now I could do it in my sleep) 1hr. Strong hint: make sure the faces are taped flat down all around the needle centers. If not, expect the needle disc to interfere with the cutout in the faces, especially the tach and speedo.
Took me 1 hour the first time. The trick to get the cluster out is to remove the 4 bolts that hold the steering wheel mount. Then the steering wheel will drop down enough for you to wiggle out the cluster. Just be carefull of the airbag wires!
