Default Rear End Swap

I am going to have the rear end changed in my 2000 a4, should I go ahead and change the TC now also to realize the best performance to a 3.42 rear end gear from a ZO6 in a relatively stock 2000 convertible? Also I live in Northern Illinois and looking for a shop that can do this switch for me and tourque converter as well if appropriate. Thanks for all responses

I would have it all done at one time.

Might want to check with RPM Transmissions.
They know their S--t.

I am in the process of the same mods. Do both at once. I did the 3.42's earlier and will now be paying for the converter install with a full tear down again.
Also what else will you be doing to the car? If it will remain a bolt on car you wont want to go high on the stall. If it will get a cam and heads, you will want a higher stall.
I agree with talking to RPM transmission. They will explain it all.

It is a fascinating DIY job........

My 3.42 was from a high mile coupe, so I upgraded to the C6 clutches and DTE belville springs. So if the diff has some miles on it, you may consider having that done as well. Change the output shaft seals too.

im changing it right now with a few writeup i found on here and other websites, its really simple just time consuming. just not rushing myself and i keep ordering parts as i go LOL
my car is also a vert, once i do get a stall its going to be a yank 3600ss i had it for 3 years on my 98 ls1 camaro and loved it lauched great and felt really tight on the streets for a stall of that size. dont think i would spend the money for something smaller, get a extra trans cooler too.
heads up nice time to change your fuel filter since its squeezed in by the transmission.
i know that later i will want a torque converter but i enjoy working on the car so i will wait untill i get bored of my 3:42s and then i will stall it up!
if i had to pay a shop i would do both no question about it, why pay twice

I would check with Yank but I didn't think the ls1 vette and ls1 Camero converters were interchangable?

I dont think he was suggesting that. Just that he used the same type and will be going with it again in this car.

I believe LT1 Camaro convertors are the same for LS1's.
Good luck on your vette
