I test drove a 98 coupe tonight and the passenger window won't go down. The owner says that the motor has been replaced and it needs a new switch. He says this is this cause of the key fob not working to unlock the doors. I'm thinking BS, but has anyone heard of this before?
Also, same car has an ignition knock. The computer should keep this from happening, right? Owner says it has low octane gas in it and thinks it's the wrong oil causing the knock. Car runs good otherwise. Stock 98 C5 MN6 70k miles, $12k asking price.
The key fob has nothing to do with the window or switch. I wouldn't buy a car with a knock. If it's bad gas, make them prove it. Replace it with good gas and see if it knocks. The computer should adjust for low octane gas and stop pre-ignition knock, I think it's BS all the way around on this one. Why would they even have a car with the "wrong gas", "wrong oil" and bad switch (and the motor had been replaced already). I wouldn't trust the maintenance history on this car. It's just me, but I don't like to buy other peoples problems. I'd look for a car that has been cared for properly. There are plenty to choose from. Pay a little more now, or pay a lot more later.
