Default air pump

The directions i found online for the vortex rammer say to use the small included filter plugged into the air pump. My rammer did not ckme with a filter for thisnso i was thinking of using a barbed fitting with a cheap auto store valve cover breather ...it would be a smaller opening because of the barbed fitting inside diameter. Would this work? What is the air pump for? Car is at the shop jow but i am debating about eve putting the rammer on...i may just cut and modify the stock box or do the zip tie mod to keep it cheap but apparently effective.

The air pump is to get the cats heated up faster. You can use a breather filter if needed. As long as the barb fitting isn't extremely small and restrictive, you'll be fine.

So if running an off road xpipe this air pump would not be needed? I think i am still leaning towards the zip tie mod just so much easier and cleaning the filter will be a ton easier.
