Well a buddy and I started my clutch install yesterday. So far it hasn't been so bad.
From putting it up on jack stands to having the complete rear cradle, diff, trans and torque tube out it only took 2hr 45 min!!
We noticed that the driver side out put shaft seal was leaking (leaky butt).
So we pressure washed the complete assembly and took it apart to replace the shaft seals and fix the leak between the trans and diff. Just needed anerobic sealer. Also installed a Pfadt trans mount.
Just have to get the shaft seals tomorrow and install them.
Then put it all back together!!
All in all so far it hasn't been too bad. Got about 5 hours into it so far.
I will update this when we are done.
I got a copy of the GM clutch swap instruction and they tell you to take WAY TOO much stuff apart. Don't follow them to a T. Use them as a guide and use common sense.
Good luck, that's the only thing that I paid someone to do on one of my cars. I just didn't want to take that on in a 2 car garage.
2 car garage? That would be heaven. I did mine, and wrote the guide all in the middle of my driveway. Hell, it was my parent's driveway in fact (this was 10 years ago).
My stock clutch was shot. I couldn't go over 3000rpm in 4,5,6th gear or the pedal would stick to the floor. Friend that was helping me never rode in the car and thought I was joking how bad it was. When he pulled the clutch and flywheel from the motor he just laught at how bad it looked.
Any way I am putting in a McCloed RST along with their flywheel and new slave l, TO bearing, pilot bearing, and remote bleeder.
How high up off the ground did you get it? Do you have headers to contend with?
It is up on jack stands. They are pretty tall though. I Daneasure it of you want.
Yes I do have headers. I unbolted them but don't think I needed to. Going to leave the bell housing on and just rotate the motor to get to the bolts.
You didn't say which headers you have, but I have LG streets and you will find it easier if you unbolt them and move them. Trust me, you will find out they are just annoyingly in the way.
