If you are mostly concerned with ET times a gear swap to 3.90's or 4.10's and a good clutch setup while your at it should do the trick. Better tires too needless to say.

The things I mentioned will make the car much quicker and destroy people off the line at a red light or whatever. But for power you basically come down to three options, two of which people building street cars usually go for.
Forced induction, IE a Supercharger or turbo kit, Heads and cam along with other N/A mods, or nitrous.
Most people building an N/A car start out with intake and exhaust mods, they plan and save for the heads and cam swap.
On the other hand, most people see the price of a FI kit and get scared away, however someone that is power hungry will quickly find themselves putting that money into the car anyway. A FI kit is without a doubt the best bang for the buck and better off done while the engine remains mostly un modified. It will satisfy your power thirst, and be a much more streetable car. You just have to be willing to put the money down up front.
