I installed my new Blackwing today, and it's great, except that it doesn't seat right on the air duct grommets. The Blackwing grommets are lined up and seated well. I pushed 'em down as hard as I felt comfortable but no go.They just miss. I know it isn't going to go flying anywhere, and it isn't sitting high enough to dent my hood, but ,whattaya think?
Did I miss a step? Thanks, fellas.
Nope, I don't think you missed a step. It's a matter of persistence. I've installed a couple of them. Sometimes everything lines up perfectly. Usually you have to tweak something, ie Wing has to be lined up perfectly, grommets placed in flush.... The only think I would make sure is that the BW is sitting up so high that it's exerting pressure on the hood.
Took 3 hours/3 tries to get mine to sit down enough. You have to have blue hose slid on very tight, MAF needs to be right up against the BW. Then have clamps loose so you can move it around some. If all else fails, trim the blue hose enough to make Maf touch BW. You ofcourse need to have the "locking" pins out of the snaps on the air bridge when you push them in. Good luck-----I came real close to returning mine, and I am not
a dummy when it comes to this stuff.
I fought with the installation as well. The grommet studs that hold the grommets that hold the air duct are mounted on the top radiator shroud. That is plastic and will flex away from the duct during installation. I found that if I worked my fingers under the shroud and pulled it up towards the air duct, I could get things to fit. It is frustrating, I know. :)
Those grommets are very difficult to engage. I've had my blackwing for 2 years and it's never totally seated on those grommets. Don't worry about any problems. I've had none.
Gentlemen:
I'm happy to know that I'm not completely alone on this one. (Misery loves company.)
Anyway, after getting cranky over my ineptitude last night, I woke up and took the BW out and started all over and now, and now.....it just about almost fits real close to where it's supposed to! Thanks for your support, as usual.
I have done two installs of BlackWing now. The second took longer than the first because we took off a band that we did not need to remove. After we figured out what we had done we completed the install in about 45 minutes. I learned more from the second install than I did the first since we ran into a couple of problems that we caused.
Nate at Extreme was great to work with on the purchase and install of both BlackWings.
