Default quick boost question

whats the maximum amount of boost you can run before you really have to start running forged engine components?...on a stock LS1 and an LS3

thanks guys...trying to plan and budget a build and still researching every option

really eyeing that Hinson single turbo system

What octane gas are you planning to use?
Who will be tuning the ECM?
Are you planning to use methanol injection?

Typical street applications on 93 octane should be kept below 8 psi but again it depends on how experienced your tuner is at keeping the engine out of detonation.

I live in California so I'm stuck with 91 octane

Will probably have Cunningham do the tune, one of the best LS tuning shops there is

haave'nt decided on or researched meth systems to much but it seems like the cost is relatively low to add a meth system so could go either way....whats my max boost capability with and without Meth with a great tune, 91 octane, and without having to forge the engine?

oh, and with the meth option of course I would still be using and intercooler besides the meth.

7 or 8 pis is the amount used on a stock small block. Its been the same for many years, even on the earlier models.

I use Cunningham Motorsports too because they are close and defiantly know their stuff. Though they are starting to chase me away with their lackadaisical attitudes and failure to ever show up on time for my appointments. I go in at 9 when they open and schedule me to be there. They don't get started till an hour or so later. That's after they walk in from the gym or whatever they where doing and get changed.

7-9 pounds with or without meth?

I actually like the idea of running meth now that I researched it...seems like a good safety measure for not much money in the grand scheme of things

so meth kit it is

Methanol injection adds a layer of protection - a little insurance if you will. Not necessarily there to allow high boost pressure. While some folks may increase boost since they add methanol injection, there are mechanical limits for a stock short block. You shouldn't go into a stock shortblock build planning to push it much over 550 to 600 whp.

Thanks for the info

as I'm budgeting these options out seems like for around 7-8k I can get it to around 600ish hp max(counting labor costs)

to go over that i really need to start looking at forged engine components for another 6k installed or do one of the bigger displacement forged engines for about 10-12k installed and then add a turbo and meth kit to get it up to 800 or so hp.

seems like what they call in manufacturing a "step function"...where if you are going to have a reliable streetable car you are going to spend 8k ish to get up to around 600hp or take the next step and soend 16-20 k getting up to a bit over 800-900rwhp

hardly seems worth the second big step unless you are going to that 809-900 range because you won't be getting all the hp tgat you can per $$$ spent.

seem about right?

If your car is tuned for Max HP with meth injection, what happens to your engine when you jump heavy into boost and the Meth injection system fails or, you simply run out of meth???

Tha't why I choose not to run it.....
