I've used Amsoil in various cars over the past 15 or so years and always had excellent results. My 86 TA required rear end fluid changes every 12K miles due to the synthetic limited-slip additive. When I switched to Amsoil at 12K with the rear end clunking like a can of bolts due to worn out fluid, everything smoothed out and I never had to change it again.
In fact, I was at tshac's this weekend and picked up an entire fluid changeover for my crankcase, tranny and rear gear. He's a dealer and stocks lots of it.
If you use their synthetics only user their Series 2000 if you can. Their other stuff is good but the Series 2000 stuff is the BEST!
Oil: Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 oil
Trans: Amsoil Universal synthetic ATF
Real axle: Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 gear oil
Their air filters are excellent for their filtering properties but the line is limited mainly for factory applications. The fit & finish on the air filters is marginal. Some will fit. Others will not.
Amsoil does make an excellent 2-cycle oil for snowmobiles & watercraft. They have a wide range of products.
I am getting the crankcase & rear done now! Staying with Dextron III in the tranny at the advice of many people & tranny experts. Seems the C5 has synthetic in engine & rear already but NOT the transmission.
Since 1993 I have used & sold Amsoil :D It don't get no better than Amsoil!
Put it in your A4 ASAP! Lowers temps & the shift is better. In the rear end, no friction modifier is needed,Amsoil has it in all of the gear lubes.I run Series 2000 0w30 Motor oil :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Run the BEST & Buy it right (wholesale) You will be all :D :D :D !
Their oil and oil filters are the best. I've been using them for several years, at extended intervals, and have experienced outstanding results.
I think their air filters, though, are crappy, and will continue to use a K&N instead. :seeya
AMSOIL gear oils are formulated with friction modifiers for limited slip differential applications. There is no need to add limited slip or additional additives.
AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube provides limited slip performance. Although generally not necessary, original equipment manufacturers' limited slip additives may be used in conjunction with AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube.
I added the GM additive to the series 2k gearlube and have had no problems. I also used the amsoil ATF D4 in my Z06 MM12. At Road Atlanta last w/e I got the "High trans temp" warning on the DIC. When I hit the reset button it would show the trans temp of 271-274. This will only work when you get the warning first. I just pulled into the pits and let it cool down till the next session. It did happen on 3 of the last 30 min sessions right near the end. I think it was more due to how hard I was drivng the car. Talked to some more experienced drivers there and they kept their cars in 4th alot more than I did and had no problems. Oil tems ran up to 280, but where int he 270s for the most part.
I use it everywhere except the C5 crankcase because I change it so often-about 8X per year. I use the gear oil everywhere from C5 to diesel 4wd tractor axles. they make the only synth ATF I know of. Only 100:1 2 stroke I know of.Even their grease is impressive. The marketing thing gets a little Amwayish(MLM) but if you read the history of the product they have been the leader in synthetics. Converted the tractor hydraulic fluid (9 gallons) to Amsoil: now at 20 deg F instead of the front end loader squealing for 10minutes and being sluggish til the fluid warmed , I get full power right away.
