Was working on the car today and noticed there was a patch of rust on the passenger side where the firewall meets the bottom of the car. I have no idea what it is from because the battery is fairly new and the previous one didnt have any leaks either, so im pretty sure its not battery acid. Could it possibly be the condensation from the ac condensor? Does anyone else have this same problem?
I don't think water/condensation did this. Unless you have been under the car before, I guess it was a leaky battery in the past. Looks like classic battery corrosion to me.
That's what I was thinking, I'll pull the battery when I get a chance and take a closer look to see if there's more damage. Maybe I'll grind it all down and hit it with some primer

Wash good with a strong solution of hot water and baking soda. If it foams even a little, you know what caused it (battery). Get rid of all that acid, clean up the surface and get a good coat of paint on it.
My hvac spigot dumps on the exhaust (brilliant), but not onto any of the frame/body.

Have you ever pulled the close out plastic door on the passenger side wheel well to take a look see?
You will see where the PCM lives but can't hide from battery accid.
If not, I'd start my inspection right there, like yesterday!
Wouldn't be concerned about finding rust & sand....but finding signs of acid

No I haven't pulled that off, I'm not too worried about the PCM because I've had the car for almost 3 years and problem free. I'll pull it anyway and if there's rust I'll sand it down and give her a nice paint job. Thanks for all the help guys
Well I got the day off to work on the car and the rust is from a leaking battery. Apparently whoever the first owner was had a leaking battery and cleaned up the mess but never bothered to clean the bare metal. Thankfully its not that bad and never ate any wires or the PCM so im going to sand all the rust down and give her a fresh coat of paint/primer.
This product helps keep rust from returning and neutralizes the rust pits that sandpaper or wire brushes can't reach. A little goes a long way so a bottle will last for years, just keep it out of your eyes. http://www.auto-ease.com/cgi/ppcart....97723&cleaners
