I'm picking up a set of BBS-LM wheels as a second "set of shoes" for my FRC. It's currently shod in 18/19 C6 replicas and I wanted the ability to switch out to the old school look. These are 9x17 and 10x18 (1/2" wider than stock all around). I know what the stock tire sizes are, but am looking for suggestions on going wider with the stock rolling diameter. What say you (all) before I break out the calculator to figure it out. THX.
If you look at the tire specs (I know Tirerack shows this, not sure about other sites) you'll see the manufacturer recommends a range of wheel widths for each tire. Your wheels are 1/2" narrower than the C5Z wheels, but the tires will probably still fit. Check about a 295/35 in the rear and 265/40 up front.
Wanted to replicate the rolling diameters of the original (OEM) tires as closely as possible for purposes of not messing up the algorithms in the traction control and ABS. Stock front 245/45x17s are 25.68" D, and rear 275/40x18s are 26.66" D. What I came up with is 275/40x17 which is 25.66" D and the rim spec is 9-11", and 295/35x18 which is 26.13" D with a rim spec of 10-11.5". Closest I could get using Tirerack's specs on Michelin PS2s. Sound right?
Oh I misread what you put for the front. I think you want 265/40, not 275/40. The rears need to be .5-1" larger in diameter than the fronts, and with the 275/40 you're barely at .5".
