Default Blackwing pretreat procedure

I've got the Blackwing and ready to install but there are no instructions. With tech tips I can get it on but my concern is any pretreating. Do I need to pretreat the filter element before I put it on the Vette? Guess I need to get the cleaning kit too. Thanks for any info.

The Blackwing comes pre-oiled. Rub your finger on the filter element and you should see some oil on it that came off the filter.

You should eventually get a cleaning/re-oiling kit for it. I ordered one with the BW and they sent the K&N kit. :yesnod:

Interesting...I was told to NOT use the K&N cleaning kit on my Blackwing. Since the filter should be good for a very long time, I have not even thought about purchasing the kit yet.

Thanks for this bit of info. I will look into whether or not this is an inappropriate kit.

I just installed my Blackwing this last weekend. When you take the Blackwing out of the plastic bag and handle it, you will feel the oil on your hands.

That is true. The Dondaldson filter medium should not be cleaned with a solvent based cleaner like the K&N kit.

You can use Simple Green cleaner(from Wal-Mart or the like) to clean and a light re-spray of mineral oil after it air dries. No compressed air drying. 50 cents worth of chemical and the rest you can use around the house or on the wheels etc...the Simple Green that is.:)

Oops, my bad. Just checked and I did get the BW kit. The K&N was with the Twin Flow I had before. :bb :)

Filter does not need cleaned for 50k miles, also comes with an indicator to let you know when it is dirty. Just installed mine. Went on without a hitch and looks great.

I would suggest lubing the neck of the Blackwing before installing. It will slide on easier and thus require the repeating of fewer words starting with 'F'. :)
