Ok, so the muffler inlet pipes that are welded to the mufflers are Ti, and the H pipe and cats are Stainless, got it. I always thought of the mufflers and inlets as an inseparable assy, so I called it the mufflers

The pipes manifolds, cats and h-pipe are mild steel, not stainless. AT least when I took them off my 2001 they where not stainless - they appeared to be galvenised mild steel, not stainless.

Ok. so if I have changed the exhaust manifolds to shorty header and the mufflers to Z06 type (Ti), there is not much more I can do to take weight out, less taking out the cats which I can not do in NY, or going to a smaller cat for a marginal gain.

The factory H-pipe and cats are made of grade 409 stainless steel.

You can replace the cats with free-flow units that will shave a few pounds off. You'll notice a difference in throttle response, particularly if your stock cats have considerable miles on them. Also, replace the h-pipe with an x-pipe. This may not save any weight but the sound will be smoother. I have the shorties, free-flows, x-pipe & ti catback. I really like the way this system sounds and performs.
If you are not bound be emissions, long tubes will be the best for power, sound, and weight reduction. I did shorties as a California car. No power increase (Dyno proven), minimal weight reduction (had factory steel manifolds, not cast iron), and no sound difference. Thats my experience with them.
Someone on here once said that only the 2001 Z06 had pup cats, obviously that was incorrect. Does anyone know what years and models had them? My 99 does not have them.
