Default difference in ls6 cams?

I have a ls6 cam but I'm not sure if it is form an 01 or later. Is there any way to visually tell them apart?

Not visually, you would be best to take it in and have it turned by a shop that knows how to check the specs with a cam wheel.

Here are the specs...

2001 LS6 cam: Duration: 204/211, Lift: 0.525” / 0.525”, 116 LSA
2002+LS6 cam: Duration:204/218, Lift: 0.551” / 0.555”, 117.5 LSA

25 thousandths is a big enough difference in lift that you could measure it with a calipers or micrometer fairly easily.

Measure the base circle
Measure the tallest point of the lobe.
Subtract to find difference.
Multiply result by 1.7 (for rocker ratio) and find your gross valve lift.

It wont be EXTREMELY accurate, but it will get you close enough. As I said, .025" is a BIG difference and should be easily measurable with a standard caliper, etc.

On the end of the cam the #'s are:

5308
s 15
1299

also on the end were F and a 2 away from the other #'s

on the mid camshaft were:

1305
29801

I have no idea what these mean.
