One of my underpriveledged friends (I won't mention any names, but he's kind of a loser ;) ) thinks that traction controls works via the cars brakes.....I say the car pulls the throttle when it starts slipping.......anyone know the answer?
Re: Does traction control shut off throttle? (OliverM5)
TC cuts engine power. Ever try spinning your wheels on ice? Active handling applies the brakes selectively to keep the car tracking straight. Don't ask me about the power loss between shifts. Would like a certain and knowledgeable person to explain. No guessing allowed.

Re: Does traction control shut off throttle? (tscales)
I drove a '02 Camaro SS and they only have traction control, no active handling. Upon trying to leave a stop light heavy, the next thing I noticed was the terrible smell of the brake pads which were working against me. The Camaro SS uses brakes only for traction control. The C5 is smarter and pulls power.
I have a string tied around my finger to remind me to hold down my button for 5 seconds every time I get in. I will only drive in competitive mode, once I forgot against a Cobra and it was just plain embarrassing! :(
Re: Does traction control shut off throttle? (OliverM5)
Traction Control on the C5 works by retarding the throttle when rear wheel spin is detected via the wheel sensors.
If you've ever had it kick in, you know how it feels. You just sit there (it seems like forever), waiting for the computer to give you back control of the throttle. It can be really exciting when you've punched it to get out into traffic and the computer chops the throttle.
Active Handling works by selectively applying the brakes at each wheel to control yaw (spin) and keep the car moving in the direction the computer thinks you want to go.
Competition Mode allows you to turn off Traction Control while keeping Active Handling active.
Our TracActive Controller does this for you automatically when you start the car!

Here is my understanding:
Traction control will cut the throttle and use the rear brakes to slow the faster dirve wheel. It is normally triggered by the detection of a speed differential between the wheels past a pre set value.
Active handling adds a yaw sensor and will also limit the throttle while braking any of the 4 wheels.
Competetive handling removes the the throttle limitation and wheel slip detection while still using yaw information to activate individual brakes.
