caliper mounting bolts
i'm replacing all four calipers ,brackets and rotors (98 vette) should i replace the mounting bolts or just use the old ones if not damaged...these bolts are $8.00 a peice (8 needed) thank you in advance phil52277

Use a wire wheel to brush the old Locktite out of the threads, apply red Loctite when re-installing. Or, you could pay a couple bucks apiece over the Goodwrench counter for new ones. Here's a tip for removing the old bolts which were probably originally torqued to 90 ft-lbs plus they were Locktited: Use a propane torch to heat the threaded part of the "knuckle" that mounts the bracket bolts for a 60 second count. This will soften the original Locktite making removal easier, especially if the car is on the ground. Anybody with a lift can use a big breaker bar from the bottom.

thanks for the tip...i'm considering having them professtionally installed austen-spencer will do all four brakes and rotors for $150.00...does that seem like a good price?

bluefire, i know the says change them, but i even checked with the local chevy dealership and they said they never replace them unless they are damaged...and at $8.00 a peice if i don't need to change them i guess i won't...thankyou everyone phil52277

I don't replace mine every time I swap rotors because I use different rotors for street and track so it would get very expensive buying new bolts every time. That said, if you don't swap rotors very often probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them since they are tty.

GM part number 14067559.
They will have loc tite on the threads.
If you are not the original owner of the car & have no idea if the previous owner or machanic ever "over tightened" them, I'd go ahead & replace them all.
How ever, going forward, it would be fine to reuse.
Never over tighten.
Clean the old loc tite off with a 8mm x 1.25 die.
Believe me it works great & fast.
Put a dab of loc tite on each bolt, & your good to go.

Plus, a little acetone on the threads first, dissolves the old Loc-Tite pretty quickly.
