Need Help With Radio Reset After Battery Change
[COLOR="Red"]FINALLY I GOT THE PROBLEM SOLVED.......[THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ./COLOR]My battery was dead at the end of a car show this past weekend, had to have it jumped. I was out of town so I went to the nearest Sears Automotive & they installed a new Diehard. I did not watch the tech do the change, so do not know which terminal was removed first.
I have a red flashing light (about every 15 sec.) which is located just to the right of the radio Volume **** and showing on the radio display is LOC.
Radio will not turn on either. I have checked the owners manual for this issue (useless) & searched the forum with no luck so far.
Car is '99 FRC......
Any help is appreciated as always......

Your radio is now locked because the battery power was disconnected without first disabling the radio Theft-Deterrent Feature.
You must re-enter the 3 digit code, that was previously set, before the radio will work again.
There IS a procedure in your owners manual to do this, and it must be followed exactly to work.

This is just another example of GM engineering idiots doing something to cause headaches for the owner of a vehicle. I'd be willing to bet there's never been a factory radio stolen from one of these things in history. I mean, ask your self. If you were going through the trouble of stealing a radio, would you pick one of these pieces of crap with 0 fm sensitivity and a s/n ratio of 20%, or would you steal some nice Kenwood head unit that actually has features and works. And if you already have a Vette, what in gawds name would possess a person to want one of these in the car, especially a used one.
For $129 at Crutchfield, you can replace that delco pos with a real honest to goodness head unit. I'd do that before typing in the 3 digit code.

If you don't know the security code, you can get it at the website below.

Hope this link works. You can unlock your radio for free anytime. I think that other link above is a service you pay for. Do a search on this forum. You'll find everythng you need to do it. I used it myself.

OK.....I have been attempting to use the info. provided by LOTZAHP, I called the 1-800 number and received my 4 digit # (step 10), my issue is when at Step13, where are the MN & HR buttons on my radio, are they together, or do I hit multiple keys for them? AND I do not have an
H anywhere on my button display.....I'm almost there but can't get over the hump !!!

Their instructions are as follows:
"Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from Step 11".....??
LOTZAHP is a forum member that has various self-help instructions for DYI's, that also includes my problem....pretty cool.

Yes that sounds right. It's been awhile since I did this. The hour (Hr) button will select the first numbers. Then use the minute (min) button for the last mumbers. I forget if its 4 or 5 digits. Say the number you want to put in is 1234. Use min for 12 and hr for 34. Does that make any sense? And do you have the owners manual which helps too?

Well, I just came in from the garage for another attempt. I called the 800 # and for the second time was given a 4 digit number to unlock the radio......now here is my problem, it states to use the HR & MN code to enter this 4 digit number.....but.....it ONLY allows for a 3 digit number to be entered. I might add that you can scroll with the HR&MN buttons to 4 digit numbers....however....the numbers given to me are starting with 5xxx, and the display will not go past 1099.....
Hope this isn't to confusing....???? I sure don't want to go to a dealer.

Ok. Get it set up so its ready for you to enter the code you want. Press min button and 000 should appear. Press min again and make the last two digits agree with your code. Now press HR button to make the first one or two digits agree with your code. Press AM-FM after your sure you have entered the right code. Now it might show REP which means repeat the min and HR buttons again to confirm the code. Press AM-FM again and SEC will show to tell you radio is secure. Hope that helped. Let us know. And write down the code for future use.

This is getting ridiculous.........the code I was given was 5428, you can enter the last two OK, then you can enter the 4 OK, then the problem starts with the first # that is the 5, it reverts back to the 3 digit numbers and will not let the 5 be entered as the first of 4 digits.
Now I don't blame you if you hang up on me.....I may just keep calling that 800 number and hope I get a 3 digit number (it automated at GM, so I have to take what they give me). What a pain in the #&%..

I'm looking at my owners manual right now. I have a 1999 if that makes any difference I don't know. But it says the unlock code will be from 000 to 1999. So 5428 would not work. If you haven't yet would you try the link I posted above. Just a thought, it might work better. Give you a code that you can use.

Sorry I didn't see your getting number from GM. That should be right and work. Did you try using key pad on radio to enter numbers? You know if you need a 5 just push 5. Heck try everything.

I have been using the link (K Base) that you provided.
I will try again in the morning, when it is not so hot in the garage in Chandler, AZ.
Thanks so much for all your help, I'll get it done or else, will let you know.

Want Bluetooth for your phone and Ipod:

Throw away that pos and get something that works. Life is too short for such things. These come with everything you need to install it without cutting a single wire in the car. I cannot imagine owning a car with a stock stereo. They suck. They are the equivalent quality of a $5 Kenwood or Alpine (if such a thing existed).
