Default Tip: addressing split convoluted tubing

A lot of people put electrical tape on the ends and at Y’s of convoluted split tubing to keep the wires addressed. But even with high quality tape, heat tends to melt the adhesive, leaving a mess. So I have this tip that has been working for me.

I first tape the tubing. Then, I take Liquid Tape and paint over the electrical tape, all around the taped joint, especially where the tape seam is. A second coat doesn’t hurt. This stuff dries super quick, looks great, and keeps the tape intact.

That’s a really good tip! I hate when I tape something really nice and a while latter its coming undone and its a sticky mess!

Good idea. Good choice on the convoluted tubing too. White stripe.

Self-vulcanizing tape works well also. It doesn't come unraveled and no sticky adhesive.

Self-vulcanizing tape. I have used that stuff sealing connections on outdoor closed circuit TV connections. Isn't it sticky and attract dust?

That white stripe was left over from an MSD Optispark install. Do you know where to buy that stuff.

Actually, its not white, it's gray. The color indicates it's resistance to heat or flame. In automotive/heavy equipment, we used to spec gray striped, and blue striped.

Just do a google search for "gray striped wire loom".

Yep, did that the first time. Only thing I see is black with a gray stripe. What am I missing?

Product description:

No need to disconnect your wires and cable for insertion—this conduit-like sleeving spreads open for easy installation. Sleeving won't gap when you bend it, making it a great choice for wire and cable routing. It is also solvent and acid resistant.

Polyethylene provides good abrasion resistance. Temperature range is -40° to +200° F. Black, blue, orange, and red polyethylene options are UV-stable for outdoor use. Flame retardant meets UL 94V2. Color is gray.

Nylon offers a higher maximum temperature than polyethylene and has excellent abrasion resistance. Temperature range is -40° to +300° F. Color is black with a gray stripe.

What, to actually speak from experience, and provide a clarification for the forum member inquiring?......yeah, I guess it matters to me.....significantly more than it does to you.
