Default what exactly is a C5R block?

I am learning more and more about our Guldstrand, Danny went down and talked to Dick last week, and the builder of the car.... he is going down again next thursday because Dick had to go and did not have enough time to answer all the questions, but has set up a time next week to go over the whole car.....

one think we did learn is its a C5R block, and dick said that these cars were the test bead for the 427 C6, and were subsidized by chevy for the builds...(kind of like Shelby cars and ford). its been an interesting journey trying to find out all about this car...we have a lot more to learn....

so... C5R?

Its a resleaved redesigned LS1, or gen III. 427ci and used in the C5R race cars. They have more ribbing and are stronger then LS1's and iirc they have better oil passages and mains.

They also use a different aluminum alloy for the block than the rest of the LS engines.

the C5R block is a whole different block, not resleeved.

Different aluminum composition too.

your last comments are good.

the C5R blocks were good to 900 some BHP too.

Try close to $100K for a real C5R Katech built engine.

Even the Racing LS7 engines start in low $30K range. More in the $50Ks

I don't think it's that much... It is c5r Katech full engine....I think the whole car with the build from my understanding (and yes, I could be wrong) was around $120k

Its in my LS1 bible book. They show how they relseaved the blocks to get 427ci out of it. They didnt have the money at the time to design a motor just for the C5R so they used LS1 architecture. The resleaving tho weakened the block because they took meat out the middle therefore they added ribbing to strengthen it. At that point they also used a stronger AL for the same reasons. Ill find my book and a picture of it.

All it takes is Joe Joker to turn a beautiful block into a POS.

You know who you are.
