Resistive pellet on the key might be dirty and the BCM isn't reading it correctly. Burnish the metal tab on the key pellet with a soft pencil eraser and see what happens.

Thanks Zee.. You hit the nail on the head.. I had the same exact problem with my 99 C5,, years ago.. I don't know why it never dawned on me.. Forgot all about that event, until you brought it up.. I took a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to the pellet.. Did the trick

... glad it worked.
I've found that using a soft pencil eraser on the metal strip on the pellet really works good. It actually burnishes off the oxidized top layer on the metal strip, which is something just rubbing alcohol won't remove.
