Yesterday I had four sessions at the Charity Laps at VIR. I had the opportunity to let 'er rip on the backstraight and went over 120 on several occasions.
In every case as I passed through about 5,000 RPM I'd hear what sounded like vibrating plastic coming from the dash. It seemed to be coming through the center A/C vent as though the plastic ducting or something was resonating with the engine revs at high RPM.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there a fix?
Probably won't get a lot of replies due to the fact that it can be very difficult to pinpoint a noise (especially since we don't get to see the car in person, but you do) and that you have to describe to us. Try to get someone to ride with you and see if you can replicate the vibration/noise and see if they can help you pinpoint it. I had a vibration noise that I swore was coming from the same location as yours and it turned out the be my targa top wasn't seated properly. The vibration noise went away after taking the top off and reseating it properly. It only made the noise at certain rpms and speeds. Otherwise it was quiet. If you think its an RPM issue, then put it in low gear, get you a rider and start searching. If its a speed issue, it might be tire balance. Just real hard to say on this one. Good luck!
