Exhaust bypass mod help

I just picked up an 01 Convertible a week ago...and unfortunately it still has the stock whisper quiet exhaust on it. I don't feel like shelling out an arm and a leg on a cat back right now after this purchase, but would some more sound and I know about the bypass mod but aren't exactly sure what size pipe and hole would be best. I'm having a local muffler shop do the work for me and I'm sure he has pipes or would getting the pipes from an auto parts store be cheaper?

btw..my 99 was totaled in an accident and it came with a beautiful corsa sport exhaust that I loved but was damaged in the accident or I would have taken it off.

Autozone has both 2 inch and 1 7/8 inch pipe about a foot and a half long for $7.
