I had the same problem with that bulb from corvette mods. Very dim. I couldn't figure a way to modify the tabs without possibly breaking them. The amount of light didn't make it worth the risk.
I got the same led in the mail today from the same vendor that states to crimp the copper connectors on the factory light housing and ended up ruining mine and I now have to purchase the whole damn light assembly and try to find a panel type board led with connectors like Toques.
If anyone knows where to purchase the panel type LED with connectors like the one that Toque has please let me know.

Thanks
I got the panel from Ebay, and the spade connectors from Home Depot.
I tried an LED panel swap too. 12 LEDs on the one I tried. Same thing where its nice and bright at first, but once it times out, it goes very dim instead of turning off. However if you close the hood and reopen it, it is still dim. The only way to make mine stay bright was to increase the load it draws. I tried adding a second 12 LED panel for a total of 24 LEDs, but still no luck.

Open your car door and it will get bright again.
Its some sort of timer on the light.
I thought opening and closing your hood would do it...Maybe you need to open a door.
