One of our club members did a test on his stock 99. To sum it up, he lost over 3 tenths of a second and gained about 5MPH. Here is the link to the CCDV.com (Corvette Club of the Delaware Valley) article. If the link doesn't work, send me a message and I'll post it here.
I do not know of any other company that is willing (or able) to say that their intake product can knock .3 seconds off your times. I was VERY skeptical when I first heard of it. But I was at the track that day and saw it with my own eyes. The downside is that it would be very difficult for the average person to install it. Mainly because there is a lot of work to do from under the car. The Vortex is easier to install. But I chose the Donaldson. I got it on sale, it's a snap to install, and it even tells you when it needs cleaning. Breathes well, installs in minutes, and less damage from over cleaning the filter.
I disagree that the Vararam would be a difficult install for the average person.
It does require that you get the car off the ground so that you can take out the inserts and fog lights. But this is pretty simple. I installed mine in about an hour, using a lift, and have been very happy with it.
The only tools you need for the install are screwdrivers and a socket for the fogs....
I could have done the install in the driveway with the car on jacks but that would have just been less comfortable.
By the way, the fog lights are reinstalled once the system is in place. They need to be removed so you can get the ducts installed.
I agree in fear of hydrolock my LPE TT is filtred on 2 sides in bad places but one must be careful. We have the Blackwing for around 210.00 and itys the XTREME filter of choice some may give you 2-4 more ponnies but weigh the cost and risk after shipping and installing a bazillion Blackhawks everyone loves them.Dave
PS GM covers NO hydrolock even off a stock filter use your boat for water skiing.Dave

My point being, the AVERAGE person does not have a lift to help make the install an easy job. The AVERAGE person doesn't even own a jack. Bottom line, if you can work COMFORTABLY under your C5, and you don't go submarining, go for it.
