I would like to know the difference between the injectors fuel rail and intake manifold in early ls1 camaro firebird and corvette applications and the latest ls1 model design.
So far I have noticed the injectors have different part numbers, some rails on the later design have just supply and no return line and the obvious is the camaro and firebird intakes have a large intake hole for some kind of egr tube.
Any performance differences across the board on these parts on the different ls1 setups?
The difference in performance would be negligible. LS1 intakes have a 5.06 L plenum volume, a 0.536 L runner volume, and a 262 mm runner length. These are the specs of an LS1 intake regardless of what it came off of. The fuel system uses 28lb injectors in 97-98, 26lb in 99-2000, then back to 28lb in 01-04. The injectors do what they do regardless of the fuel rail design (IE with or without a return line). The early F-bodys still have the same size 78mm intake snout with an egr hole drilled behind it. If anything this robs performance by ruining the smoothness of the intake.
Any LS6 intake is hands down a better intake than any of the LS1 models. All the LS1 intakes are all the same IMO and are not worth swapping one for the other. Same for the LS6, people get wrapped around what cast number to go with. An LS6 intake has a 5.19 L plenum volume, a 0.541 L runner volume, and a 262 mm runner length regardless of what it came off of.
Use the system that the car originally came with--No advantage or dis-advantage-- But if you for example remove the return system and opt for a returnless system you may encounter some fueling inconsistancies--
