Default Theft-Deterrent System

A few questions regarding my 2004 corvette.

Which fuse is dedicated to the theft-deterrent system? I am unable to determine this from my owner manual. I will add that my alarm system is factory installed and not aftermarket.

I also ask if anyone knows what would cause my alarm system to alarm by itself. Mine went off in the middle of the night by itself and I am unable to determine the problem. Faulty horn relay?

Finally, I removed the horn fuse for a temporary fix. Would the alarm system continue to run? I ask this because my brand new battery is now dead.

Thanks brothers.

I don't believe there is a dedicated fuse for the theft/alarm system as this would make the car's alarm system easily disabled and ready to steal--GM may hide the alarm's wiring and fuse on another circuit but don't disclose it- ( they similarly hide the ECM's fuse on the cigarette lighter circuit!!) when everyone has sinse found out--
Seems like you have a "glitch" somewhere in the alarm electronics---1st step would be to dis-connect the battery overnight to see if it will rest the alarm---These cars use power all the time to keep the BCM powered up---even with key off--Batteries will go dead eventually simply from sitting too long---In your case if it went dead quickly however you have other issues

Curious to hear the outcome on this, in the event of alarm sounding on its own!

GMs C5 Theft Deterrent system is NOT one thing. Its a SYSTEM consisting of sensors, switches and the BCM.

The BCM monitors sensors in the door latches and trunk latch, and also monitors changes in currenty draw with in the car's electrical system once the car is in the SLEEP MODE.

The common causes of sporatic horn/alarm system operation are:

If its JUST the horn going off,, you could have a damaged horm bladder in the air bag module, (beneathe the air bag cover) They are replaceable.

If the actual alarm is being tripped, the exterior lights will flash and the security light on the IPC will be bright.

Do some testing. Roll down the windows and set the alarm. Reach inside and open the door hood and trunk. The alarm should sound for each if its alarm systen is set.

Sometimes the sensors in the door lock assy gets wet and shorts out. Cycle the drivers door lock and see if that changes the symptoms. Your 2004 doesnt have a passengers side key lock but dose have a sensor for door open/shut. You can see if they are working by look ing for the door/trunk ajar message on the IPC DIC

What is your SLEEP MODE battery current draw? Should be 20 milliamps or less. If it more, that could be the issue with the dead battery.

Not to high-jack this thread; but,

I'd like to see what amount of battery draw I have in SLEEP MODE. How exactly do you measure the battery current draw, and more specifically how do I know the car is in SLEEP MODE?

Also; does my using the CTEK 3300 have any effect on the SLEEP MODE?

Dan
