Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
For some, they work as well as some canned "custom" tuner's programs. My heads and cam car gave good results with the programmer, I am now experimenting with LS1-Edit, and other custom programs, haven't seen any that work better. Using LS1-Edit, you can see what changes were made from stock by the tuners, and unless you have radically changed the engine's needs (larger injectors, huge cam, etc.), the programs I have seen have been VERY simular.
Add in the ability to change tire sizes, gear ratios, rev limiters, fan turn on/off, and you really are getting something worthwhile. And, for lot's less than the custom guys are getting.
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
Useless on my A4 C4. Runs better with theb 100% stock program installed. Even running only the fan temp option seemed to make my engine perform slightly worse than pure stock ECM logic.... weird.
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
Saying it's "useless" is a bit harsh, IMO. There are some benefits over stock but I think it's up to each person whether it's worth the money. I'm thinking about selling mine only because it didn't make downshifting any better on my A4, and that's really what I wanted to change. But you DID ask for opinions, so anything goes.
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (C5pilot)
It's a joke for $300+. From what I've seen the "powertuning" goes out the window with any mods... I bought mine to change the speedo for 3.42's, NOT. Called hypertech and they said " sorry, we know it does'nt work, nothing they can do." :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
For another $100+ you can have real tuning from someone that will stand behind the product and a product that does what it claims to do.
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (lostsoulny)
Good results here. I even taken it off, and on againg. I like the new shift points (does work) and removed the speed limiter and adjusted for the gears.. Those things alone was worth it for me. I will have a tunner check out the car after an LS6 intake is installed, and compare specs.
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
Always ATTEMPT for a shop with right software and DynoJet for EXample at XTREME to upgrade gear size 75.00 fan points 75.00.If you want custom tuning and not 8 sizes fit all its a 100.00 per hour and you would be amazed how finely you can tune a SC stroker with 46 Lb. injectors cam allthe goodies leave it for the day and for 3-600.00 wewill not only tune the motor much more accurate than the 3 gentelman backed up 5-8 weeks and the PCM makes 1-10 overnight trips and they will take 7-10 days if your not on top of them.
At a true tuning shop we tune your blown C5R with your own custom specs. On many occasions have I seen our set up turn a famous builders not a tuner take a stage2 head /cam/intake/headers and mandatory STINGERS,any system and it comes in a tuning shop with 385 HP and 371 lbs tqe. and 2 hours later were looking at 410-420 and 400-440 Lbs Tqe.
We wont do mail order even though a well run shop can pop out 30-50 a day @ 500.00 a pop do the math but the real question is how many jobs continually case damage and the guy isnt in a club and he doesnt smell how lean he's running yet these guys never get sued??? Go Figure Dave
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
I like it for the firmer shifting and to turn the fans on to match my 178 T-stat. The difference in power using the power tune feature is so slight (if any increase at all) that I went back to stock (which is a recent GM reflash of my 2000).

careful with the shift firmness option, I think Glock94 blew his tranny using that....
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
I have posted in the past about my positive experiences with the HyperTech III and have been very satisfied with the results which include the performance programming...
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
I am Very pleased with the results of the Hypertech lll on My 1998 Automatic Transmission coupe.
1 to 2 shift + 2mph
2 to 3 shift + 5mph
3 to 4 shift No Change
Rev Limiter 6,200 RPM
Shift Firmness 75%
Program for 195 DeGree Optomize Settings
Top Speed Limiter is set to Z
The engine is more responsive and the Transmission Shifts like it is supposed to. This is well worth the $$$$.
I don't know how good it would be on A 6-speed manual transmission but on A A-4 it is A great improvement over stock. :chevy :flag :flag :D
Re: Opinions of Hypertech PowerProgrammer III (J-C-5)
Has anyone experienced spark knock at higher RPM's using the standard Hypertech power tuning ? I just installed it and did the standard on mine and can hear a slight detonation when it gets up around 5700-6100 RPM's

I get some knock retard, but I figured it was from the MAT sensor increasing timing. Anyway, something's got to go. Mine's 4-8 degrees.
