Overtime season finally started at work, so now I can start modding seriously. I want to do headers next, and I'm split between TTS and TPIS. I've heard of qualilty control problems with TPIS in the past, but supposedly this has taken care of.
The TPIS and TTS look like they'd give me the same HP power increase, but I like TPIS's price better. Is there any reason I should go with TTS instead?
Thanks,
You should also seriously consider the headers from http://www.stainlessworks.net They are all stainless (TPIS and TTS are mild steel) and are priced between the others. Stainlessworks makes headers for many of the top tuners. I went with these and hope to have them installed shortly.
I actually like how the TTS have slightly smaller diameter primaries (1 5/8" instead of 1 3/4"). This smaller diameter tubes help out big time with torque at the lower RPMs, which is what you feel everytime you drive the car, not just at 5000+rpm. I also feel the TTS are a much higher quality header, and have not heard of any quality issues with them.
If you are interested in any more info about the TTS or want pricing, feel free to drop me an email as we usually always have them in stock.
I had the TPIS on my '99 coupe and had no problems. You may want to also consider the FLP headers. This is a complete system and requires no cutting or welding of the stock H-Pipe.
TPIS: well tested, "inexpensive" (see also the RK Sport header)
TTS: well tested, high quality
shorties: great for lease cars, a true bolt on
Belangers: an old school tri-Y design, good quality
FLP system: great for a complete, end-to-(almost the-)end bolt on system
LGM Longtubes: this is the one if max performance is the primary requirement
I am extrememly happy with my TTS headers. Among other differences, I like the 1-5/8" primaries and flanged collectors better than the TPIS' 1-3/4" and slip fit.
It really just depends on what your requirements are. Given that you've narrowed you choices to TTS and TPIS, it comes down to how you feel about the primary size issue, construction quality (mainly the flange thicknesses) and collector design.
I just installed a set of RK Sport headers on a customers car over the weekend. They are just like the TPIS . They are fully coated and they have flanges at the collector which is much better than that slip fit thing the TPIS has. They went in easily and they are cheaper. We have them for $799.
hey matt, and others, I thought I had made up my mind on tts's but someone mentioned in another thread that they're a major pita to install. are they that difficult?
We have a shop locally who has done almost 30 sets of the TTS for us, and they do the TPIS and others. They(who are supporting tuners here as well) have told me and our customers that they are not any harder than any others and are better quality with better collectors. The flange to the head is much thicker as well.

I'm one of those almost 30 customers and I am very happy with the TTS. They are much better quality and the low end torque is nice.

If you ever find any long tube header for the C5 that isn't a PITA to install let me know

Would I still feel this increase in low end torque if I went with a 3200-3500 stall converter?
I love my TPIS headers..over a 22 H.P. gain and tons of torque. See my home page for full install pics....Great product!! :smash:
VStella,
Which offroad X-pipe did you go with. I already have a P.O.S. Breathless bolt on:bs offroad X-pipe, and I don't know if it could be modified to fit the TPIS, TTS, or RK sport headers.
Thanks,
Mike
I do have the Breathless off road x-pipe manufactured by Robert of Florida Performance of Fort Lauderdale....954-491-1012....call him, he's the best!:D
RG, as you know, Speedworks did my initial install on my TTS, they've done a lot of TPIS also. I've done my own TTS (in and outs) courtesy of Speedworks lifts 3 times in recent history, and they are really NOT a big deal to do. None of them go perfect. There's a thread on last weekends run's from racing and my TTS headers are providing great midrange-torque which is what I'm interested in.
Speedworks also has race experience specifically tuning for the TTS header setup.
