I am putting ls3 coils on my ls1. I am doing some mods and katech coil relocate. The ls3 coils look cleaner after install. My question is, I have the a new GM harness adapter and coils. The adapter has a small plastic box around it to clip to the stock brackets. How do I tell which is the front to the back. The plug only goes one way,but you can flip the 4 inputs over.Don't want to find out the hard way.
Was told by MSD that LS3 coils will NOT work on a LS1 engine, even if you figure out how to connect them. Something about coil "frequency" or such. You need LS1 coils, although I've read of some using "truck" coils, but I suspect they are LS1 design with different output.

I'm not aware of any issues involving LS3 coils, but I do know the later LS2 style (round body) coils work fine. They are somewhat smaller than the OEM LS1 coils, so for "packaging" purposes, they may offer another alternative.
The coils I have are Delphi #12573190 and or D514A. These will work on ls1 with the adapter I have. They will also work on ls 2,3,4,7 and x . I guess I will have to peel back the loom and try to do it that way. Just thought someone might know the answer to my original question.
Well it looks like the only common wire is 1 red wire on front of drivers side and 1 red wire on the rear passenger side. Still not totally comfortable yet . If anyone knows for sure please chime in. Thanks
