OK...so we get Zinc Plated rotors cause they look great but....
according to Baer's "Rotor Seasoning/Pad Bedding" Instructions:
"Use the vehicle for 5 to 6 days of gentle driving. Use the brakes to the same extent that you have used the stock brakes. It is imperative that excessive heat is not put into the rotors at this point. Note: Zinc plated rotors (which are an extra cost option) need a couple of extra days of driving to wear thru the plating before "seasoning" actually will begin."
So why even offer the plating in the 1st place, doesn't it seem useless?
The reason I ask, is cause I'm right in the middle of the "Seasoning" process now and it just seems silly.....

I also wonder if any of the zinc gets into the pads...
I believe you zinc plate everything to help prevent
rust like in the holes and the part that isn't touched
by the pads. It keeps the rotor looking good for a
longer period of time.
The zinc plating is also on the hats (rear), edges, etc where the pads don't rub it off. It's also supposed to keep those areas (especially the hats) from rusting.
The whole cast disc is plated. Look what happens to rotors as they get older. The part not contacting the pad rusts. That's why you see guys painting them - the areas the pads don't skim look like crap after a while. The zinc is for all the areas that are steel that are not protected from the elements. Below it's apparent what areas would not look so great after a while. I would not have bought these if they were going to rust in a short while. :yesnod:
Don't worry about it...The plating wears off quickly.. I had mine done at Gator Plating in Sunrise. No stopping difference...once it's gone you'll notice rust forming on the surfaces.
Mostly it keeps the holes and slots from rusting up..
Cryogenic treatments (cooling rotors to very low temperatures) can help the rotors wear better also.
A cryogenic treatment is the process of treating workpieces to cryogenic temperatures (i.e. below −190 °C (−310 °F)) to remove residual stresses and improve wear resistance on steels.
The process has a wide range of applications from industrial tooling to improvement of musical signal transmission. Some of the benefits of cryogenic treatment include longer part life, less failure due to cracking, improved thermal properties, better electrical properties including less electrical resistance, reduced coefficient of friction, less creep and walk, improved flatness, and easier machining.

NOT Sorry a HUGE Myth about Cryo brake rotors that has spread on the interweb.
In reality we see cryo rotors crack sooner then stock rotors. Not worth the money.
WHAT ? I can show you dozens of articles (including Tire Rack) about benefits, show me an article saying that it is bad?
Street use Vs. Track use. Road race use would not have holes or see a benifit in cryo. Great marketing and all, but $100 napa rotors will be all that is needed for better life. Now weight savings in two piece good for both and the plating make sense for street, bling and show stuff.
