Default Cats question

Have modded 04 with long tube headers and Billy Boat Bullits. The Cats were removed in this process by prior owner and the check engine light was deleted. My question is- how expensive and difficult is it to put Cats back on(dont have them) and reset the check engine light. Certain states require inspections( Pa) and may need to do this soon Thanks for any help. looking for ballpark cost and answer to computer reset

It depends on what type of headers do you have, you need to figure out what type you have before you can get an accurate estimate for the price.

Your in luck.. NUMEROUS people here have the entire mid pipe section (with CATS ) sitting idle in their shed. Recommend that you post a WANTED post in the C5 Parts FOR SALE/WANTED.

You will get LOTs of replies. Make SURE that you find one that will fit your exhaust manifolds. There are several different styles. Early Mid and Late model C5 and ZO6.. You can HACK the CATS off any of them and weld them in your system. Heres what your looking for:

If you will NOTE,,, this unit has PRE PUP CATS. The early C5s didnt have them.

Wouldnt he be better off just getting the mid pipe for his brand headers instead of trying to get new manifolds and everything, that is unless he wants to get rid of the long tubes.

Thanks for reply. There are LG Pro long tube headers on the car I'm only interested in making it legal to register in state like Pa where inspection and emissions are required

I have catless AR headers and X-pipe combo the previous owner had installed. In his city he had a nod-nod, wink-wink inspector who let him go every year, but I don't. I'm also getting tired of the smell. I was quoted $500-600 over the phone by a respected local exhaust specialist to install high-flow cats.

That seemed a little strong to me. I'll be looking for some more estimates this week. Anyone have an idea what would be reasonable?

If you are going to re-install your cats and re-enable the DTC functions you will need to also re install the " Rear" 02 sensors----
The rear 02's are what report to the ECM the condition and operation of your cats
Called the "COT" or cat overtemp system"--Not only do you re-enable all the DTC's most likely the COT system has been turned OFF as it is tunable--have your tuner turn it back on-----
PS: If you want you can install the cats but leave all the DTC reporting and CO system turned OFF . The catylitic system will still work but just won't work 100% and the overtemp system won't work but that's really not a big deal---best of all no codes !! and the easiest fix--no need to go to the tuner !

I think you can buy a brand new catted x pipe for about that price and Im sure you can get a used one for a lot less. Heck you might even be able to find someone who wants to trade for yours.
