Default Oily intake

I imagine this is normal from the pcv system? My intake has a oil residue about it. I stood the intake up on the throttle body over night and it left a oil ring on the floor.

Thanks for any input.

Another update is to install the "LS6" valley cover onto your LS1----And since you're that far try and find a deal on a LS6 intake manifold--It's worth an easy 10-12 RWHP and should be fine without tuning
The LS6 intake valley re-routes the entire PCV system and pulls vaccum that connects to the front on the engine---Some minor clearancing and grinding of a block post is required but the instructions are clear and easy---Make sure to tape off the entire are so shaviings can't get in---
Should help a lot on a stock cammed engine--If you are cammed adding a catch can is usually the only way to clean up the intake--
PS: having a clean oil free intake should make the engine run better too !! That synthetic oil raises havoc in the combustion chambers

My solution to the PCV system is breathers on the valve covers. I get 0 oil in the intake because it isn't connected.
Although I do plan to hook it up at some point, I smell vapors when the heater is on....now that it's cold outside.

Ron pretty much the same here--I have a LS6 valley cover-- Coelescating filter as a catch can and 2 atmospheric breathers--one on the drivers side valve cover and one on the T-Body original PCV line----"0" oil in the intake
this allows fresh air to be drawn in for the outside and then filters out the vapor and oil as the air is sucked back out of the engine
And yes only when I shut the engine off I'll get a hint of oil smell--doesn't bother me though !!
PS: It's still amazing to me that my filter glass bowl fills up with oil and I have to dump it every 2000 miles or so !! These engines inheret some dubious PCV symtoms---

I pick up allot of oil in my can, but am still displeased with the amount that makes it to my FAST intake. Very annoying! I wish I listened to these guys about the LS6 valley cover and did it at the same time. But I didn't feel the cost and customizing justified the means. Needless to say, I will be doing this the next time the intake is off.

A reminnder when using the LS6 vallry and a FAST intake(on the older models for sure ) you'll have to repllace the valley cover bolts with "button allen head"bolts to give you clearance--otherwise the stock bolt heads will hit the bottom of the manifold and NOT allow it to seal---

It is definitely worth it!! $66.83 is what I paid from GM Parts Direct (or was it GM Parts House?)...and a couple of bucks for the hoses from the local O'Reilly's. Didn't take me long to do the swap either...all in all, everything was well worth keeping the oil out of my intake!!

Once you do the swap, I'm sure that you'll agree!
