Default Katech LS9X clutch questions

I have an internal problem with my T56 transmission on my 03 Z06. Since the car still has the stock clutch and I make over 600whp I figured it would be a great time to upgrade the clutch while I had everything out. I was told the Katech LS9X clutch would be a great choice, and friend had a lighly used on for sale. He decided to upgrade to the LS9R clutch. Since he was upgrading he kept the flywheel. My impression was that I could buy a GM LS9 flywheel and be ready to roll. After talking to Katech I was told I needed buy their LS9 flywheel and slave cylinder for $1400 to make it work. Is it true that I absolutely need to use their parts instead factory GM parts? I thought I was getting a fair deal on the clutch, but after adding everything up I could have got everything new from Katech for about $300 less than what it appears its going to cost me. Please advise!

GM flywheel will not bolt up to your crank (9 bolt vs 6 bolt).

The folks at Katech are correct. It took them a while to come to market with a flywheel that allows you to run the LS9 clutch.

FWIW: I run an RPS Carbon/Carbon Street Lite Twin and it's a very nice clutch. Still a little of the standard dual disk rattle but no where near as much as the RAM Twin I had in there.

I thought there were some issues with this setup as well, at least I recall reading that some were having problems.

Are you talking about the RPS or Katech having problems? I'm considering going with the RPS instead. What a fair price for eht LS9R clutch minus the flywheel? It's only got a couple thousand miles on it, and is in great condition.

You don't need to buy the whole kit for $1400. If you are getting the clutch from your friend you just need the flywheel for $819.99 and a ZR1 slave cylinder which is around $200.

Thanks Jason. So I was originally told that I need the heavy duty slave to make things work due to clearance reasons. Just to verify, that is not true? What slave is included with the C5 kit? I take it that it is the ZR1 slave and not the heavy duty unit? If I can use the ZR1 slave that would be much better for me.
