AC Delco Professional, Model #78-6yr, 700 CCA 120 RC, Part # 19001632

It does not have carrying handles built in. If a dealer tries to sell you one with handles saying it is the same, it is not the Professional Series which is what you want.

Don't get me wrong, there are other good batteries out there. This is the correct AC Delco battery. If you desire a different battery make, the important thing is that it have at least 700 CCA and 120 RC ratings.

Optima Red Top. : I don't like the idea of a big vat of acid sitting on top of the computer/wiring system (which is made of metal). That's what the previous owner installed in my car, it works great!

That is not an issue with the AC Delco Professional series battery anymore and has long since been corrected.

I bought the factory spec battery from a dealership for $105 out the door.

AC Delco Professional, Model #78-6yr, 700 CCA 120 RC, Part # 19001632

It does not have carrying handles built in. If a dealer tries to sell you one with handles saying it is the same, it is not the Professional Series which is what you want.

I concur.

Any good battery will work The AC Delco Professional Battery is good as stated.

I cant see spending $210 for a redtop!

I purchased a AutoZone Premium battery for my 02 ZO6 and it has worked flawlessly..

Even the WALMART batteries are getting EXPENSIVE! A standard WALMART battery is $90.

I have had the Autozone in mine for over 4 years. Car sit for almost 4 weeks last month without start during valve spring repl and fired right back up. It will probably wait until I am out at 2:00 am to finally die.

Optima Red Top DO NOT TRUST a Delco wet battery. I have been there and suggest you do not need the seriousness of a failure. Further,I remember Delco telling me to that their batteries were A- OK and I had a flood of acid all over the PCM , frame and battery box. They offered no assistance whatsoever. No thanks ! You don't need a Optima but insist on a gel type battery.Trust me, it was a mess that cost me a lot of $ and misery.

I bought a Autozone Duralast Platinum which is a AGM, same technology as a Optima. It's a group 78. Got one for $129.00, I think they are made Deka.

Do not buy any battery that has the slightest chance of leaking. Optima red top is expensive and worth it.

Have you ever seen the damage a leaking battery will do to a C5?

Thats HALF PRICE of an OPTIMA!! Good find!
OPTIMA is a Severely over priced battery for what we need it for. You will NEVER have to"

Mount it up side down, expose it to SEVERE VIBRATION or Severe temps.

I drank the OPTIMA cool-aid ONCE and will NOT pay that much for a Corvette battery again knowing what I know about batteries.

Most of the dead battery problems experienced by C5 owners are cause by a problem with the C5. Not the battery.
You can put a $400 battery in the car. If the car has excessive current draw or a poorly performing charging system, the damn battery will discharge. Plain and simple.

Our C5 are complex and can have electrical issues. We just have to figure them out before we blame the battery.

Bill

I have only used AGM Batteries in my C5. I had an Exide and now have a Optima Red Top.

Be sure to use a battery maintainer on an AGM battery, because if it severely discharges, it will reduce the capacity.
