If the car is in Rhody, the only two big Corvette dealers left are Hurd and Masse. I know Paul Masse has a ton of Vettes and some well trained techs. Not sure if he is the dealer or the one who did the swap but usually a car of that pedigree in this small state is "known". Have you tried contacting any of the local tuners such at Slowhawk or NE Dyno? They may know the car and more history.
I think I've seen the ad for this car. Been available for a long time now. It looks great in pictures, and is intriguing for the 427 motor they were saying was either a factory install or maybe that was a dealer install. It did seem a bit on the pricey side for a 2000 C5, but perhaps the motor upgrade puts it over the top. It may have also been on Craigs list for some time if I'm not mistaken. Bottom line for me is why has it been for sale for so long without a buyer? Could just be that relatively high price, or just lousy economic conditions too...but such circumstances leave me really hesitant. Then again it might just be a home run waiting for the right buyer to scoop it up. But your right, the roads up here suck now and the potential buyer should get a good test drive...use caution on this deal, and good luck...you'd be hard to keep up with on Posse cruises...
Spreader, I find your advice very helpful. The car is a 6 speed. Unfortunately the dealer only knows that the engine was a GM crate motor installed by GM as were the Z06 brakes and real GM wheels. The car drives veery well, and I have spent a lot of time over in C6 looking at LS7 problems which seem to be limited to the valve issue. I believe the dealer is being honest with me but this engine visually looks exaclty like the 625HP retrofit small block motor offered by Blueprint Engines for $11000. There are no plenum covers just the coil packs on top of the valve covers. Do you think the clutch will hold up to conservative driving w/ just a few pulls now and then? Does your engine have plenum covers? If I purchase the car I will bring it to one of the local tuners recommended by Bill Curlee and others so I am not worried about AFR's too much.
Ps. I just noticed you are from Nebraska, know anything about Blueprint Engines as offered by Summit and Jegs. My motor is a ringer for theirs, do GM crates come in the same configuration?
BPHORSEGUY,
This is Andrew from BluePrint Engines, if you want to know for sure if it is our engine or not all of our motors will have a serial number plate on the engine. It is located on the block on the driver’s side of the engine, the tag is going to be silver and red and will have a six digit number that starts with a 2. If you find this number I can send you the original dyno sheet and the date that it was made. Let me know if I can be any further help!

OK, I have contacted Don at Slowhawk and we are 90% sure he is the one who tuned the car and we think we can clearup the last 10% w/ just the slightest co-operation from the dealer! He has a complete file and dyno sheet on the car. Thanks very much for your suggestion, I love it when I plan comes together!
They are asking $25000 and I would use the car conservatively for cruises w/ the club, cruise nites, some commuting, and maybe a one time street nite at the local track!
I'm Republican and to hell with being conservative!
If it was me that bad boy would be going to the track on a regular basis.

you are good if Don did the work; I'd be worried about a GM tech as most here in New England may see only a few each year.
I'd drive the car everyday, life is too short to settle.
250,000 plus C5's, no need to worry about a few stone chips

I have one (not stock) in my C5. I am running SuperMaxx headers w/cats and a Z06 ti cat back. It is mellow when cruising but barks pretty good when you are on it. The nice thing about the Z06 ti is that there is zero drone even with headers.

Sounded awsome, you could hear the cam loping!
Now you've figured out the engine, you should know those wheels can't be GM. C5Z06 wheels were not made in 18"/19" sizes and C6Z06 wheels wouldn't fit that car. So, if they are making a big deal about the wheels being GM wheels then they are full of BS and you can't believe anything else they're telling you.

I was going by the cast part numbers on the back, I will double check, thanks for the heads up!
