Any ideas why my steering column on my 99 just went "poof" and quit working? Is there a specific fuse for this that perhaps went out or is this a dealership/warranty issue? It's not that big a deal since b4 it went out I had already set it but its a bit aggrevatiing since I've only had the car a month and a half. :mad

Re: Telescopic steering won't work (JJ2180861)
If its a reset issue, then that would be great. If not and the car is under warranty, go get it fixed. I really like my tele steering wheel - makes it easy to get in/out of the car.
Hard to believe that just tapping the switch six times will fix this but with this being my second vette (previously had a 94) I can almost believe anything with some of these fixes. I never could locate the fuse number for this but I'll try the tapping suggestion when I get home later to see if it works !! Thanks !!
I had this EXACT same problem, did the 6 tap trick and have not had a single problem since. Yes, at first I was skeptical... just try it and you will believe.
So glad I listened to eveyone. That's the GREATEST thing about this forum.
While thinking this was totally insane I did the six tap thing and WOW on the seventh tap it just started working !!! Strangest thing I've ever heard of but it worked. THANKS guys for the advice.
Now I just have to figure out why my fan on the air condition is making a strange noise at hight speeds !! Always something but thank goodness for extended warrenties and the forum
JJ--My 99 did the same thing under warranty. Turned out to be the worm gear was jammed. All they did was remove the cover, realign, lubricate, and walla. :yesnod:
I had my switch replaced which was causing my steering telescope to not work. a $21.00 piece by GM, I thought it was the motor inside but it was not. I looked at my receipt and they just replaced the switch. I save all my receipts just incase someone on the forum or I need to reference back on a part.
 Glad it was fixed without taking it to the dealer.
It sounds like this in a common problem !! It's still working two days later so we'll see if it lasts. I didn't want to have to go to the dealership either but I will if I have to. Car is so tempermental. This morning I got in , put the key in, it welcomed me with the familiar "corvette by chevrolet" and gages moving but when I turned the key.... nothing. I took the key out and did it again and varoom there she was. Must have been mad at me
