I currently have a vararam intake and XS Power longtubes with no cats on a 02 z06. I have done a few searches for inexpensive tuners like diablo sport intune and that looked like the best option. Basically I want to be able to turn off the rear O2's and possibly a predone tune based on the common mods I have. I am not looking for precision tune currently so I would rather not spend the money on a dyno tune yet.
I believe there are sims you can connect to the o2's to fool the ecu into thinking theyre working. If you dont want to spend money on a full dyno tune then talk to a company like Diablosport. They can sell you a programmer with a custom tune in it. Theres a list of forum vendors that are tuners that can help as well. Just know that a mail in tune usually involves you removing the ecu and sending it in so the car will be down for that period.
Many tuners will charge a larger amount up front and then later tunes as you add parts are less expensive. I have also found over time as the software improves and the tuner gains more knowledge they can tweak other portions of the tune with each visit.
thanks blitz, that is looking like my best option currently since even if I get one of the tuners I would still need to spend $150 on a custom tune to disable the rear o2's. Basically my current concern is I have to pass an electronic emissions test in may and from what I have read if the rear o2's are disabled it should pass the check.
I did find these http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/straight-cel-fix.html
but not sure if they would work right or not. the mini cat one they have should definitely work but at $50 each I would be better of paying for the tune.
