Hi all, This is my first post but have been researching and reading a lot for quite sometime! I love the forum! I have a 2001 coupe 6speed. I have owned it for a little over a year and I am overall very happy with the car! I have read on here many different issues with the active handling, but haven't come across the issue I am having and I am looking for some advice/guidance/ideas. While on the the highway at speeds anywhere over 55 nearly within minutes of entering the highway and getting to speed almost every time the car will pulse/pull to the left and the active handling message will appear in the DIC go about 3 seconds and go right back off. Sometimes it will only do it once, sometimes it will do it several times. It's very noticeable when it does it as you can feel it actually pulse, almost like its applying only one of the brake calipers. Thing is, there is never a code, I have looked, and have driven straight to the service dept without shutting the car off to have it scanned and it never shows anything! We have discussed a steering wheel position sensor but everything I have read says that will show a code. I'm just lost and I know my mechanic is also. He has been working on Corvettes since I wanted one as a little boy and knows the ins and outs of pretty much every generation Vette. I am at a loss, I am hoping someone along the line can help out with this, I shouldn't be scared to drive my car on the highway and every time I do I envision loosing it and smashing the median or worse another car! That's what it feels like, a quick pulse of the brakes, but it's hard enough to scare me out of driving on the highway.
Looks like the tires are stock sizes. Ever since I bought the car it's always had a bit of a pulse in the brakes, we turned the rear rotors thinking they may be warped with little to no luck. Seems they pulse more after the active handling fit it has on the highway. I will say it seems like its worse in colder weather. This is a daily driven car as long as there is no snow or ice on the ground. Tires are decent, but def coming up on needing a new set this spring as far as tread life looks. I will say I have broken the tires loose as all corvette owners do, and when the tires slip it says trac/active handling I believe. Thanks for your time, any further input or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Your symptoms sound like you may have an issue with the AH/TC coming on because of tire sizing issues.

What size tires do you have front and rear??

If the overall diameter of the rear tires is not between 0.5" and 1.5" LARGER than that of the front tires, the AH/TC system thinks the wheels are slipping and applies the anti lock brakes to try to control things. Wheel diameter is not important but overall tire diameter is.....

To me, it sounds like the steering position sensor. The last time mine went out, for some reason it took about a week for a code to show up.

Next time the problem occurs, pull the codes BEFORE you turn off the ignition and see if there are any other codes that show up. SWPS could also be a cause for the symptoms as Corvette77 suggests.
I will be driving car to work on the morning, I will double check codes but it has never thrown a code for this problem. Only code I ever get is an O2 sensor. Is it supposed to throw a code if there is no fault but instead just doing what it's supposed to do? It never says "service active handling" it just pops up "active handling"! My corvette guy has suggested swps but I wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas or thoughts on the issue! I was thinking about turning off traction control to see what it does. I really appreciate everyone's suggestions and time! Thanks all ill keep an update as to more or less problems or remedies. If anyone else has any thoughts I'm all ears.

Don't just expect a code to appear in the DIC while your driving. Many codes if not MOST codes don't display in the DIC when they occur. Yeah, I have retrieved codes from the DIC before and I have had the service department scan the car for codes. Earlier in the month while on my way home from work it acted up on the highway and I drove it straight to the service department and I left it running while they scanned it with no results other than my usual O2 code. Something is causing the car to freak out and activate the active handling. What I am thinking at this point is we arent seeing any codes because the computer thinks its doing what its supposed to do, we just cant put our finger on whats causing the active handling to activate. Could it be a speed sensor, a traction sensor, a brake sensor, the yaw rate sensor, swps sensor...... there are so many things that can trigger the car to activate the active handling. Whats odd is i would think whatever is acting up would throw a code, but every scan or DIC check in any form never shows anything other than the O2. I drove the car to work today in the pouring rain and it never acted up, now I barely got over 55 due to traffic, but it was rock steady the whole way. We will see what the trip home brings with colder temps moving in and the rain stopping. I guarentee it will do it on that trip. I really appreciate everyones help with this, keep the ideas flowing im willing to check anything.....I just want to drive my car comfortably with no worries!
