I was just wondering if this is a common problem with a simple solution before I tear into the door. There seems to be power going to the window motor because I can hear a faint clicking sound when operating the switch and the interior lights will dim slightly when I try down or up with either window switch.
I've tried applying pressure down on the top of the window while activating the switch, but it will not budge.
I know it sounds like an unusual way to fix a problem, but try this. Turn on the ignition key, hold the window down button to roll down the window, and open and slam the door a few times. Once it breaks loose, it will work, sometimes for years. After that, run it up and down occasionally to keep it free. The contacts in the motor need to be operated to keep them from sticking. Try it, it's free. Post back if it doesn't work and I'll link you to a couple of other possibilities. Others have freed them up by holding down the switch and rapping the door panel firmly on the door pull area, or pulling off the little cover behind the pull and placing a phillips screwdriver in one of the screws that holds the door panel on under there and hitting the handle of the screwdriver with a hammer. Both accomplish the same thing, jarring the motor while the down switch is engaged.
I have this same problem with my passenger window. It happens probably once a year. Slamming the door or rattling the window has never worked for me.
I have always had to take the door panel off and tap on the window motor itself with a hammer or some other tool. Has always done the trick.
I learned it here !
