Default Smoke and Burning oil

I recently finished installing my 383 build in my Vette and after 3k miles it was about a 1-1/2 quarts low on oil. I know that it is tuned rich because the compression is pushing close to 11.75-1. But it smokes not a lot but under heavy throttle (3/4-floor) with the old ls1 in it, i never noticed any smoke. Now the motor has little over 4k on it now.
Is this normal for it to burn some oil being a new motor and to smoke a little under heavy throttle because of it being tuned rich?

It shouldn't be smoking. Remove that oil filler cap and see if it smokes out of there.

Double/triple check your PCV setup. It toook me a while to find one that allowed crankcase pressure to vent. Are you running a catch can?

Modern rings will seat very quickly and a motor is really completely broken in in a couple hundred miles or less.

The smoke could be from too much fuel which is not good either if it's enough to wash the cylinder walls down and wear out the rings. Smoke under hard acceleration is usually a symptom of bad rings whereas smoking after deceleration is usually valve guides/seals.

Good luck.

I do not have a Catch Can. Still running the factory PCV setup. Had a friend watch me today and from we can tell It looks like black unused fuel smoke and its not at all. Just a faint puff and not everytime.

Do some around town lite throtle driving and let the car cool down. Remove the Throttle Body and see if there is a lot of oil laying on the floor of the intake manifold.

Strongly recommend the Catch Can. Made a big difference on my 02 ZO6... HAd same lite smoke under hard acceleration. The catch can gets a lot of the blow by vapor oil.

Its also recommended to check your WOT Air Fuel Ratio... Who tuned it? Are you sure that your not too rich under WOT??

That will cause some exhaust pipe smoke at WOT.

Have your tuner check the Air Fuel Ratio at WOT,
