Default Replacing shocks? Use the SnapOn A139 socket

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools...e=snapon-store

I'm sure there will be "I use needle nose ViceGrips and a ratchet wrench, and can swap them in 2 minutes" reply.

But for anyone that lives north of Virginia and works on a car that was driven for 10 minutes on a salted road..........get the socket.

And NEVER let people borrow your tools

That is all.

I bought a cheap version if that many years ago. It has saved me on several occasions. Only issue is when the metal twists off and get stuck in side it. Then you dig it out and get the oxy/acc torch out to finish the job.

Every mechanic knows this.
Some learned it from their fathers.
Some had to learn it for themselves.

How does that fit between the top of the shock and the thin slot of space above the front shocks on a C5?? I'm thinking that by the time you put that on a rachet that there it isn't going to fit on the front shock anyway is it???? I use a small open end wrench for that and it works fine, but I don't see how there's enough space to allow that to work on the drivers side shock. Maybe on the passenger side but I'd have to go home an look under the hood.

Prolly makes it easier for the back shocks tho..

You have lots of room to access the shock studs from the top once you move the coolant and washer tanks.

The opening is "double-D" shaped and holds the shock piston rod while you loosen/tighten the retaining nut.

This one does as well, but doesn't cost $19.00. It's also handy for installing non-gas charged shocks as well.

Which one? The socket is available from Snap-On and the wrench is available from a number of sources. It is sold under the "Lisle" brand name as well as "Dorman". Auto parts stores, Sears (Lisle), Amazon, etc.

I may need to pick that socket up.

When C6 suspension with shocks and sways, that was the only suspension item I touched, I ended up getting some sort of rattling sound when I accelerate and make a right turn on uneven pavement.

Only happens under those conditions.

Sounds like a rattling sound to the middle or middle driver side of the car.

You still with ARH? Staying in CT/LI, or following them to the Carolinas?

They clipped not one, but TWO purchase attempts on my part in short order. My mistake was posting the prices and intended purchases on the forum here to be observed. I learned a bit about the vendor / reseller business relationship and product control. I still feel a certain way about these things. So when guys ask me which way to go I express the ARH customer relationship experience I had and let them decide for themselves who to trust their project to.

I'd be willing to bet that a small crescent wrench would work pretty well, too.
